Thank you for your interest in TiffanyHG. I do not believe it has been made available for PostScript devices…till now.
This typeface is compatible with LaserWriters and Linotronics (I used a 3000 unit square which should be more resolution than even Linotronics can use). It is a complex typeface and therefore may take a little longer to print. Be patient. It will work.
It is a rather bold typeface and probably best suited for larger type sizes on LaserWriters (i.e., headlines or ad copy). My reason for making it so bold is: I wanted to make another "Invisifont" out of it (check Macus, DL12 for the other). As such, I do not recommend that "Bold" be selected from the font style menu in the smaller point sizes (less than 18 pt.). It is really excellent for banners and headlines and it looks pretty terrific in outline.
Since I have had trouble with ShareWare, I have had to alter some of the letters by making the printer type "Sample" across the letter. In larger point sizes this can be easily seen (and you might even like the effect - I can handle special orders!). I apologize for this inconvenience, but this is the only way I can protect my work and although the sample font is free (public domain - please pass it around) the final version you purchase is not free. Nor is it ShareWare. It is a licensed product not for resale without permission. The price for the working version is $25 (talk to me, maybe we can make some other deal). For the $25, you will get a disk, a license to use the typeface, and of course the software (in plain, italic, outline, and a special shadow) which will include a PostScript Download Utility and version 3.2 of the Font/DA Mover.
The bitmap (screen fonts) probably leave a lot to be desired. I did try to clean them up somewhat. If you want to try to do a better job, feel free. However, and I stress this:
1. DO NOT change the character widths (they may look a little
strange on the screen but remember the font has been optimized
for the LaserWriter).
2. Fontastic has no concept of the FOND resource in the system.
A FOND has been generated for this font and it should not be
arbitrarily changed!
To install the font:
First, the bitmap must be installed in the system file with Font/DA Mover 3.2 or later (earlier versions did not create a proper FOND). This font has an ID of 237. This will not conflict with any font put out by Adobe, but I cannot guarantee another company's font won't have the same ID number. If there is another font in the system file with the same ID number then Font/DA Mover will attempt to change the ID number. DO NOT LET THIS HAPPEN. If the ID number of the screen font is changed, then the downloading LaserWriter font will not work at all. If you are faced with this situation, then begin by removing fonts (one by one) from the system file and try to load this bitmap in until you find no conflict (make a note of which font conflicts - if you need to use both fonts for a document, contact me - I can provide you with an identical font with a different ID number.)
Next, place the downloadable font (it appears on the desktop as a laserwriter icon that has a document with the letter "T" on it) and place it in the system folder (or at the same "level" as the system) or place it with the application that will use it (in the same manner as the system file).
……………it is now ready to use. It will automatically download into the LaserWriter (or Linotronic) automatically. If you need to use the typeface for a lot of printing (e.g., a lot of pages or a lot of different blocks as in PageMaker) then you might find it useful to manually download the font into the printer's RAM and "lock" it in. This will provide faster printing since the font is not purged after every block or page. (You can obtain this download utility from Compuserve (Macus, DL11). It is free. (I have heard there may be problems with this application and the new systems (4.x). So use the download utility with system 3.2 or 3.3).
I think I did a good job with this font and I hope you find it useful. I would appreciate comments and criticisms so that I can make it as good a typeface as possible. The LaserWriter, good as it is, is not the high resolution machine that is really needed to produce really excellent results with this typeface. It is very obvious with the smaller point sizes. I noticed that the larger the size, the better this one looks. I would really be interested in the results on a Linotronic.
I have made a concerted effort to make the spacing as pleasing as possible and the have the letters visually align left (as opposed to mechanically aligned left as Geneva is) as well as consistent line weights. (I only have a LaserWriter to proof the characters on and believe me, it can be very difficult to make value judgements on these things.) Let me know if you find any problems.
